Viscous Properties of Strongly Interacting Matter at High Temperature

چکیده
Substantial collective flow is observed in collisions between large nuclei at high energy, and the data are well-reproduced by perfect fluid dynamics. In a separate development, calculation of the dimensionless ratio of shear viscosity η to entropy density within AdS/CFT yields η/s = 1/4π, which has been conjectured to be a lower bound for any physical system. It is shown that the transition from hadrons to quarks and gluons has behavior similar to helium, nitrogen, and water at and near their phase transitions in the ratio η/s. Conversely, there are indications that the ratio of bulk viscosity ζ to entropy density may have a maximum in the vicinity of the phase transition. Therefore it is possible that experimental measurements can pinpoint the location of the transition or rapid crossover in QCD via the ratios η/s and ζ/s in addition to and independently of the equation of state.

Strongly Interacting Matter at High Energy Density∗
This lecture concerns the properties of strongly interacting matter (which is described by Quantum Chromodynamics) at very high energy density. I review the properties of matter at high temperature, discussing the deconfinement phase transition . At high baryon density and low temperature, large Nc arguments are developed which suggest that high baryonic density matter is a third form of matter...

The QCD phase diagram contains several strongly interacting quantum gases or liquids. Experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) indicate that at temperatures close to the critical temperature Tc the quark gluon plasma is strongly interacting. The strongly interacting plasma (sQGP) is characterized by a very small viscosity to entropy ratio and by its large opacity for high energ...

متن کاملTowards a Realistic Equation of State of Strongly Interacting Matter
We consider a relativistic strongly interacting Bose gas. The interaction is manifested in the off-shellness of the equilibrium distribution. The equation of state that we obtain for such a gas has the properties of a realistic equation of state of strongly interacting matter, i.e., at low temperature it agrees with the Bitnet: [email protected]. We review our quasiparticle model for the thermodynamics of strongly interacting matter at high temperature, and its extrapolation to non-zero chemical potential. Some implications of the resulting soft equation of state of quark matter at low temperatures are pointed out.

In this paper, at first we have formulated the lowest order constrained variational method for the relativistic case of an interacting fermion system at finite temperature. Then we have used this formalism to calculate some thermodynamic properties of liquid in the relativistic regime. The results show that the difference between total energies of relativistic and non-relativistic cases of liqu...
